Once, long ago, I heard a saying that has stayed in my mind like a firebrand—it still burns bright and true: “Men are afraid women will laugh at them. Women are afraid men will kill them.”
Now, I have a lot of friends who are guys, and while I love them—and men in general—the fear is there—that awful possibility of a stranger in the night. I’ve never been the victim of sexual violence, and I hope I never am, but the honest truth is that I might just be a minority.
