A little star of love…

I don’t even know how to write this post. I suppose I don’t have to, but I’ve talked about Daisy so much on this blog — the “poodle” — who has been my constant companion for all these years. Daisy, who rode on motorcycles in Taiwan, walked on the Great Wall of China, sniffed the daffodils on the Charles River, and rode on my back in her little pack with so much happiness and curiosity about life at eye level with humans. She was born in Taiwan (she could speak three languages and had a Taiwanese passport), traveled to China via Bangkok (only Thai Airlines would allow her in Business Class), and then, after years of adventures there (she has a Chinese passport, too), came to the United States.
She had a great morning. A really lovely morning. We took her the West Baden Dome for a walk, and a group of sweet women pounced to ooo and ahh, and the sun was shining, and she had a nice nap on the couch.
And then she began to have trouble breathing. It was a terrible wheeze, a rapid unnatural pant. We took her to the vet. He thought it might be an allergic reaction, but ten minutes later her condition deteriorated so much, so dangerously, she needed oxygen.
X-Rays revealed a massive tumor in her chest, so large and insidious it had wrapped itself around her heart and was pushing on her lungs. It had slipped, the vet thought — slipped, and was pressing on her windpipe, choking her to death. No surgery could have saved her. And she really was suffocating, right before our eyes.
So, anyway, you know how the rest of this story goes.
It’s just that it happened so fast.
Daisy was a little star of love. Life won’t be the same without her.

We all felt like we knew Daisy just a little bit through your posts. She was well loved and had a wonderful and rich life. She’ll be waiting for you with her tail wagging and a great big Daisy smile on her face.

I’m so very sorry for your loss. Daisy really was a star, sharing joy wherever she went. I’ll miss her because I felt I knew her through her blog adventures. She was lucky to find such a loving home and family.

Oh, Marjorie, I am so sorry for your loss. I always loved your stories about Daisy on your blog, and your author photo with her. (Right now I’m midway through re-reading Shadow Touch, for the fourth (!) time – it’s one of my favorite books to re-read – and before I even opened the book this time, I’d glanced back at that great photo of you and Daisy on the inside back cover, which has always cheered me up – I love her grin so much!)
I hope you can take really good care of yourself right now. It’s so, so hard after such a horrible loss. *HUGS*
Oh Marjorie, I am so sorry, this is a sad day. You gave Daisy the most wonderful doggie life. I know this is a tremendous loss for you and your family. Warm hugs to you all.
As someone who just lost their last cat — and their special cat who had adopted me at that — I know all the heartache, love and memories that are conflicting you just now.
I always thought Daisy was indestructible — she just had an adventure in Boston for gosh sakes — so thank you for sharing Daisy with us.

Pets are family, and their leaving us, rapidly or slowly, creates a tiny void we can never quite fill.

There is a place, I believe, where these little furry angels go to wait for us. They are so patient that way, maybe because they never forget how much we love them, and they know how dearly we miss them. And just as they did every time we came home in this life, they will be so happy to see us again.
I know you were blessed to have Daisy, just as she was to have you. You are both in my heart and prayers.

I am so sorry to hear about your recent loss. Daisy seemed to be such a great friend of yours through all of the posts I have read on your blog. There really aren’t any words to describe the relationship between an animal and their human companions… it is just magical. My little guy, a terrier, has outlived his life expectency exactly one year since the vet said he had a few weeks to live… he seems in good spirits, but I know it is just a matter of time. I hope you are coping well, and find time in your busy days to smile. Hugs.

dear Marjorie. Daisy was a beloved traveling companion. a hiking buddy , and a shopping friend. You can tell she was always up for a new adventure,travel or just down the garden path. Whenever I think of you my mind always puts Daisy in the picture. After all, the first bio that I read of you included the job ‘poodle taxi’.
It’s so hard to lose a being that is such a part of you. I am very sorry for your lose but am also happy to know that her life was so positive. Even on her last day she brought joy to everyone near her.

Having recently lost a beloved cat to a blood clot, I think in a way it’s the suddenness of it all that takes your breath away.
Daisy was so loved, and brought you such joy and companionship.
