Daisy Lamb Chops…
13 Jun
I don’t think it should come as any surprise that I still miss Daisy, horribly. My back feels empty without her riding in her little pack. And it’s like every adorable dog in the world has been out on the street lately — which doesn’t, actually, make me want a new dog. But it makes me think about Daisy, and how wonderful our little friends are, and how we need to treasure them when they’re with us.
So, anyway, last night after dinner I looked across the street from the restaurant and saw an adorable little store called Polka Dog Bakery, which is basically the most high-end, delightful pet supply boutique (I’d call it a shop, but that doesn’t seem quite right) that I have ever been in. I mean, this place was crazy fun — and I’m not a dog.
Just before we left, though, I spied something that made my heart go all aflutter: Lamb Chops.
Now, for those of you who don’t know Lamb Chops, she was/is a puppet created by Shari Lewis as part of her stand-up routine, and it was the most hilarious thing ever — at least, for me. But also, for a variety of reasons, we always thought of Daisy as a little Lamb Chops, partially because sometimes she’d screw up her face just like the puppet in the old routine, and it was adorable.
All of this is to say that when I saw the little Lamb Chops chew toy in the dog store window, I went nuts. I had to have it. And, perhaps seeing my enthusiasm, the girl at the check-out counter dutifully reminded me that this was was a dog toy, not a real toy.
I said, “Oh, of course.”
And then spent the rest of the ride home squeaking it every ten seconds.
I miss Daisy. This helps a little. The End.

I loved Lamb Chops on TV and I could not have resisted your Lamb Chops either. He is adorable, and we all miss Daisy too.
I won’t tell anyone it’s a chew toy.
When my sister and I were children, we had a pair of handpuppets — rubbery heads and socks for your arm of Lamb Chops and Charlie Horse. Shari was brilliant.
And though I never met Daisy, from her many photos I understood exactly how she was Lamb Chops. (grin)

Aw. I’m glad you bought it and that you squeaked it all the way home.
