Last week I mailed off the galley to The Red Heart of Jade, which is a total monkey off my back. Done, finito! Next time I see it will be as an ARC, nicely bound and ready for reviewers. I have a severe love/hate relationship with that book, though it’s simmering now into love. Dean was a harder man to write than I would have ever dreamed possible, especially given that he had one of the easiest voices inside my head while making appearances in Tiger Eye and Shadow Touch. But it’s Blue’s turn now, and he’s fun. Nice, easy-going, perfectly pressed. And here I am, writing about my characters like they’re living breathing people. That’s scary.
Jenny Crusie and Bob Mayer were in Louisville last week and I wanted to go see them in the worst way. Unfortunately, I succumbed to laziness and stayed home. I just received their new book today and I’m looking forward to reading it—though really, I need to be writing. Eye of Heaven is due on May 1st, which means I have officially entered deadline oh-hell-I’m-in-trouble. Good thing I have a box of Larabars to keep me company. I’m addicted to the Pecan Pie flavor, though I just discovered they’ve created some chocolate versions, along with a Lemon bar and something called “Cinnamon Roll.” Yum, yum, yum.
Cats are surrounding me, poodle is taking a nap on my pillow, and the birds are singing outside the window. There’s a storm moving in, too, but that’s good. I spent the morning planting blueberry bushes, which means they’ll capture the rain.
Happy Easter, everyone!
