So, I finally understand the deep abiding love some folks have for the Winchester boys. And it’s not just the fact that the two main characters are…mildly, somewhat really…hot. The storytelling is also creepy, creepy, creepy. Last night? Dolls, old women, homicidal little kids running around an old hotel…
Freaky. But the antiquing joke? Sold me. Hard.
Here and elsewhere, people are asking where they can get the totes and shirts. I wasn’t originally going to sell them—I was thinking more in terms of the occasional giveaway—but if you are interested in having your own Dirk & Steele item, here you go. I admit, the tote looks great in real life.
Here is an old article about Steven Spielberg called “I Dream For A Living”. I love this line: Obsession and addiction: successful careers are built on these qualities, whether or not they are accompanied by talent.
And here: Spielberg, who says, “I want people to love my movies, and I’ll be a whore to get them into the theaters,” means to have it both ways: to mature as an artist while retaining his copyright on adolescent thrills and wonder, to blossom as a director while he diversifies as a mogul.
This, from another interview: What makes a good director, more than anything else, is just having a good imagination. If you have a good imagination and you like to tell stories, and you feel you can turn around and communicate these thoughts to a lot of strangers, then perhaps you should write or start making 8mm movies.
All of which applies to the life of a writer.
