Awards of up to $2,500 (Individuals) and $5,000 (Organizations), are available every two years depending upon geographical residence.  Having given 2006-2007 grants in Beaufort, Colleton, Hampton, and Jasper Counties, the program will next benefit artists and arts groups in Berkeley, Charleston, Dorchester, and Georgetown counties. The deadline for Artists & Communities 2008-2009 applications is Monday, December 3, 2007. For residencies by District of Columbia, NY, NY and Pennsylvania artists in the mid-Atlantic region. Program offers financial support for partnership between visiting artists and nonprofit organizations engaged in a community-based creative project. Residencies supported for one to six months.

A Chicago based, monthly publication is looking for enthusiastic freelance writers. AFRIQUE is a 16-year old publication which caters to people of African descent-African Americans, Africans, West-Indians Afro Latinos. AFRIQUE is in search or writers who can contribute or accept stories pertaining to these communities. Potential kinds of stories include interviews,features, reviews and more. (Knowledge of the communities preferred but not required). Compensation: up to 20 cents/word.
