“Hollywood is a place where the stars twinkle until they wrinkle.” – Victor Mature
Just some fun stuff. I am a huge Gerald Butler fan, and over at the Gerrygasm, they’ve got some smokin’ pictures of that man in a leather kilt, holding a sword. Mrrrow. Also, have any of you seen that new Stargate Atlantis ad in the latest issue of Sci-Fi Magazine? Again, I commend the Sci-Fi channel for its recruitment of hot men. Oh, yes.
On a different note, the_red_shoes has some interesting things to say about violence in fiction, digital or otherwise:
Do I think murder mysteries are enjoyable? sure. Might I even think of writing one myself? sure have. But what I’m thinking about is that weird sort of twilit area where the murder does become entertainment, taken for granted, where the unreality of what we’re seeing doubles upon itself because “it’s not real” becomes an excuse for treating characters as if they were puppets. I remember one interviewer asking Muriel Spark with a bit of horror about how casually she killed off her characters, and she replied with a bit of an icy smile, well it’s not like they’re real people…. I just think real blood, and gore, and murder is a lot more complicated and traumatic and messy than it’s presented as being in videogames, television shows, murder mysteries, true-crime programs cranked out like electronic sausages, and it’s a good thing to step back from all the hype and just remember that, and think about it.
