In my mind, you need an agent for three reasons:
1. Contracts
2. You do not want to talk money with your editor.
3. An agent can get you work that you cannot get on your own.
Those are basic, but do not include other benefits, such as having an advocate / ally / friend in the publishing industry who will go to bat for you, and who will be there in the trenches handling all kinds of dirty work while you stay at home in your jammies and concentrate on the writing. That’s priceless.
You can find some nice links on agents, via the Slush God, and also Miss Snark.

And here, news to make a grown girl cry (via Kristen at EOnline!):
From junglejen9: Firefly. You gotta spill it if you have any additional info, please!
I’ve heard the CW is considering bringing it back as a series, miniseries or movie for next season. Hurrah! For you who missed my message board posting, on Tuesday, Nate Fillion, Summer Glau and Gina Torres were seen coming out of one of the exec buildings at Paramount, where they are putting together the new CW unit.
