I head back to Shanghai in a bit, and won’t be returning to Beijing until my next trip to China (my guess, at the end of summer, or so). I love Beijing, though. I find it so much easier to get around, partially because I know the lay of the land better up here than I do in the south—but mostly because the cab drivers are so friendly (well, most of them). Beijing is a laid back city compared to Shanghai.
After all these years, though, I’ve gotten this whole travel thing distilled to basic necessities. Certain clothes, my laptop, passport, money—and now, my Kindle. Seriously, that little ebook device has been my constant companion, and I’ve found myself reading almost a book a day since I arrived. I’ve enjoyed them all tremendously, and every title listed is highly recommended (assuming you enjoy romantic suspense, mysteries, comedies, and zombies).
