You know, folks talk about how blogging is good for promoting books, or just “getting yourself out there”, but I’ve been keeping a fairly regular blog for more than five years now, and looking back, it feels more like a public diary than anything else. Here I am, with thoughts and fragments of a life, set to a page—things I had completely forgotten about, but that I’m happy to be reminded of. Like this, from June 16, 2004. The day before, I had received an email from an editor, and sold my first book. Five years ago today.
I’m always sentimental about this particular anniversary, but I can’t help myself. I have a good life.
Of course, this blog is more than occasionally used to promote my books, and that’s what I’m up to today! Lots of things to report, first and foremost, that DARKNESS CALLS is hitting shelves in two weeks! I’ve been talking a lot about the special exclusive I’ve written—a letter from Grant Cooperon, hero of the series, to the unborn daughter he hopes to one day have with Maxine Kiss. Here’s the page dedicated to the exclusive letter, as well as Grant’s playlist (all the music featured in the novel). Part Two is up today at Tor.com—go, check it out, and leave a comment to enter the iTunes gift certificate drawing! I’ll draw a name next Monday.
I’ve also got a Twitter contest going on now, too: Enter to win a DARKNESS CALLS themed prize (one per day from June 15-30th: music, signed book, tote, etc.) by tweeting #darknesscalls
