I hope you all had a wonderful weekend! My cousin Maya is in town, and I swear she’s going to be six feet tall by winter. I still remember when she was in diapers. Man, time flies. I don’t see her often enough, but she’s a voracious reader—which I was thinking of this morning when I saw Nicholas Kristof’s list of the best kids’ books ever.
I agree with what’s on his list, but where’s Little House on the Prairie? Freckles, or Girl of the Limberlost? Strawberry Girl, or The Boxcar Children? Nancy Drew? Winnie the Pooh? A Wrinkle in Time? Charlie and the Chocolate Factory? The Wizard of Oz, Heidi, The Chronicles of Narnia, The Witch of Blackbird Pond..and so on, and so on…
Lists are hard to make, especially when it comes to books. There are so many precious gems—probably some we’ll never know about, because they went out of print and have become lost to time. I would love to know—what are your favorites? And the more obscure the better.
