Via Making Light, excerpts from the book “Live from Metropolis: An Uncensored Oral History of the Justice League”. To quote Superman: “Yeah, we were young, famous and felt completely indestructible. Well, I know I did. Still do. Anyway, Aquaman and I were getting pretty toasted near Joshua Tree when he comes up with this crazy vision of all the superheroes banding together as a crime fighting unit. I just laughed and laughed because, well, no one ever took Aquaman seriously. For Christ sakes, he talked to fish. Plus, he dressed like Brian Eno.”
Another Making Light gem is a contest held some time ago in which trailers were made for movie classics, edited to give the impression of being in completely different genres. In other words, the Shining becomes a romantic comedy, West Side Story a horror flick, and Titanic, a thriller.
Finally, PBW has a nice entry on writing fast. Technically, I suppose I also write fast (although not as fast as PBW or others), but it is rather stressful at times. Deadlines are short, and if you run into a problem…well, that’s a problem. To be honest, though, I’m not sure I would like writing only one book a year. I’m not even sure it would be a better book. A year would just be more time for me to second guess myself.
