I just wanted to congratulate one of my classmates from high school, Isaiah Wilner, who has a new book out called The Man Time Forgot: A Tale of Genius, Betrayal, and the Creation of Time Magazine. Publisher’s Weekly gave it a great review, and I hope this is the start of a long and illustrious career.

PBW has posted a series of nifty links that generate place names for planets, realms, etc. As she says, some are more useful than others, but it’s a great place to bounce off from, especially for someone like me, who generally needs a lot of inspiration when it comes to naming things. Nothing adds heart better than a good name.

Pop Candy at USA Today has an interview with Peter Cullen, the guy-with-the-sexiest-voice-alive who gave life to Optimus Prime (and will do so again in the upcoming movie). Speaking of which, there is a very cool contest going on where folks like you and I can, as the headline says, put words into that big old robot’s mouth.

Rainy day here. Good time for writing. This is what my workload looks like:
1. Short story (10-15,000 words)
2. Novella (25,000 words)
3. Novel (90,000 or more words)
All of these are due, at varying times, in December. I’ve started two of them, have ideas for the other, and my goal is to do all of this, and still come up with some proposals like a good little soldier. We’ll see what happens. I feel optimistic, but I suppose that’s because I’m very excited by the stories. And the fact that I can write for a living. Never underestimate the power of loving your job! That will carry you far.
What I’m reading: Die Trying by Lee Child. Fantastic, fantastic, fantastic.
