Beautiful, cold day. Spent most of it indoors, and am adjusting to jet lag. Still don’t have my laptop hooked up to the internet. That’s not so bad, though—I’ve read more books in the past few days than I have in the last month. ‘Shadow Dance’ by Susan Anderson, ‘The Twilight Before Christmas’ by Christine Feehan, ‘Deep Fathom’ by…um, can’t remember, and ‘Street Boys’ by another guy whose name I can’t recall at the moment.
If you haven’t read ‘The King of Elfland’s Daughter’ by Lord Dunsany, you should. Oh, you should. One of the most beautiful works ever produced in the English language. As far as Chinese literature goes, one of the greatest classics ever not recognized in the west is ‘The Story of the Stone’ or as it is sometimes called, ‘The Dream of the Red Chamber’. It is a five volume novel that follows the adventures of a magical stone who is reborn on earth as a human boy. Absolutely magical.
Fanfiction-wise, I recommend Mara Greengrass’s new JLA fic, ‘Secrets, Societies, and Truth’, which can be found at her website . Of course, everything she writes is pretty darn good.
