Wendy has tagged me. Oh, boy. Before I start, though, I must insist that all of you read this 1964 interview with Harper Lee, the author of To Kill A Mockingbird. It’s very inspiring.
Total number of books I own:
Several thousand. There’s no way I’m going to sit down and count them all. They make beautiful wallpaper and I have little or no need for insulation. The one thing that gets me about having so many books, though, is that whenever distant relatives or those who don’t know me well see them, the first thing they do is screw up their faces in disbelief and say, “Why do you have so many books?” followed by, “Have you read all these?”
Oh, those funny people.
Last book I bought:
Um, let’s make that plural. I went on a binge last week, which will probably appall all family members who read this (except for my mother, who accompanied me on my head first plunge into the bookstore):
Mr. Impossible by Loretta Chase
The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupery
Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl by Harriet Jacobs
Forest of the Pygmies by Isabelle Allende
Zorro by Isabelle Allende
The Hunted by L.A. Banks
The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova (on pre-order)
Selected Non-Fictions of Jorge L. Borges
Aristotle’s Poetics
The Annie Dillard Reader
The Writing Life by Annie Dillard
Wind, Sand and Stars by Antoine de Saint-Exupery
Last book(s) I read:
Mr. Impossible by Loretta Chase
A Joseph Cambell Companion (essays)
Five books that mean a lot to me:
I always hate these questions because they are exclusive in nature and I’ve read so many books that are meaningful to me, but here goes:
1. A Joseph Cambell Companion (a collection of his essays)
2. Selected Poems of Jorge Luis Borges
3. Dream of the Red Chamber by Tsao Hsueh-Chin
4. The King of Elfland’s Daughter by Lord Dunsany
5. The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis
Tag 5 people to do this (in my case it will have to be 4):
