Spent the last couple days practically living at the Lowes superstore (for hardware and other home renovation/construction/fiddling-around-with-a-wrench sort of things). It’s not easy picking out plumbing, but a big shout-out to Charles for all his help. And to Starbucks, for creating their new Signature Hot Chocolate, which sustained me as my mom and I hunted endlessly for showers, tubs, and toilets. Speaking of which, who in their right mind would buy a toilet with anything less than a five star rating? I mean, really. You want a flusher that can take down a bucket full of golf balls, people! A bucket! Don’t give me no two-and-a-half-star toilet wannabe. That’s craziness. An outhouse in the woods has more flushing power than that.
Anyway.
I have a signing coming up next week. I’ll be in Calgary for the World Fantasy Convention, and on Friday October 31st (is it Halloween already?), from 8 – 11 PM, I’ll be at the The Hyatt Regency Calgary signing books, and giving away free copies of everything (except the comics). I have no idea what room the signing will be located in, but I’ll keep you all posted.
Next up, some questions left in the comments from the last post (by the way, here’s an excellent review of NYX #3 from IGN):
Yup! Available at most comic books stores, though back-issues are hard to come by, and can get pricey sometimes, especially if you’re looking for NYX (Volume 2) issue #1.
From Anonymous: For a new reader to your series what book do you recommend that we start with?
Depends. If you’re reading the Dirk & Steele series, I’d start with Tiger Eye, though honestly, most of the novels stand alone (or at least, that’s what I’ve been told, and what I tried to achieve).
How is the state of the industry?
Hard question to answer. I’ve heard a lot of things, but my guess is that if you’re an unpublished writer you might have a more difficult time selling right now. Then again, it’s always been hard for newbies. Same is true for published authors whose books don’t generate great numbers. Publishing is a survivor’s game, and that much hasn’t changed.
From Angela: How soon before [NYX is] going to TPB?
No clue. My guess is that it will be at least six months after the last issue comes out, and that’s scheduled in February, I think.
